Fall is a great time to visit a beach near Charleston because the weather is still warm and sunny, but the crowds have thinned out. The average temperature in September and October is in the mid-70s, and the water temperature is still comfortable for swimming. Learn About Charleston’s History
If you’re a history buff, Charleston is the perfect location for you. For starters, you can take a boat ride to Fort Sumter, which is rich in history. It’s the site where the first shots of the Civil War were fired, and it’s a must-see destination. If you’re interested in plantations, we recommend visiting Middleton Place, which is just a 15-minute drive from downtown though it feels like a world away from reality. Charleston also has an impressive naval museum, Patriots Point, located at the mouth of the Cooper River.
